6 Months

Emrie turned 6 months on June 21st which is pretty hard to believe. She did go to the doctor and I would like to brag that she is now between the 5th and 10th percentile in weight as opposed to just the 5th. Here were her stats.

Weight - 13 lbs 5 oz - 5-10%
Height - 24 5/8 inches - 10-25%

I am not sure how they know this but the doctor said that she will probably end up being somewhere between 5'4" and 5'6". I am 5'6" and I have to say that I have enjoyed the view from here.

She also got her 6 month shots which were probably more painful for me than her. As you can see she was not a fan.

All the drama of an actress

So Emrie has a few new tricks up her sleeve one of them being fake coughing. How do I know it is fake you ask, well because she does it all the time and because it is very dramatic. Her dad likes to give her pretend CPR when she does it just to make sure she is going to live. Even though she is all drama I don't think she is going to be a very good actress because she freezes when the camera is in her face (I have attempted to get the fake coughing on video many times).

Another trick is the foot in the mouth one. She finally got it in there when we were in Colleyville visiting her Mimi and Pops.

She is also blowing raspberries like a champ and is constantly soaked in her own saliva because of it.

Kyle also likes to brag that we have her trained to start making noise whenever we put our hand to her mouth and we move our hand up and down so she sounds like an Indian...like so.

Bumper Hugger

So I was finally able to get a picture of Emrie hugging the bumper of her crib.

Hair...or lack of it

So Emrie wasn't born with a ton of hair but what she did have was pretty dark. She is definitely going to be blonde like her daddy and the hairs on top of her head are getting lighter by the minute. But she does have a stubborn patch of hair on the back of her head that hasn't changed a lick since the days she was born. It is pretty funny so I figured I would share. Here is the beautiful little girl from the front.

And then the back.

We have many different names for this patch of hair like...tuft, mullet, business in the front party in the back, old man hair style and as her dad so lovingly called it this morning her Kentucky waterfall.

I promise baby girl one day you will have hair even if we have to buy it.

Summer Fun

So now that summer is in full swing Emrie has gotten to do some fun things. She went swimming for the first time at the Belington's pool. She seemed to like it enough that I will probably be getting a summer pass to our neighborhood pool. We don't normally let Emrie watch TV which is probably why she is just completely mesmerized by it. But when we were at the Bellington's we had her on the couch and she was transfixed by it. This picture just says it all. I love her "just chillin'" position.

She got to hang out with mom and dad at whole foods and got lots of compliments on her outfit which I promise she picked out all by herself.

She also went to her first birthday party for Gain Galbreath. Here is Kyle and Emrie with their friends Micah and Harper.

And here is Emrie as a fish.

So far it has been pretty great and we are excited about what the rest of it will bring.

New Toys and Games

Now that Emrie is getting bigger we have a whole new set of toys at our disposal. This is Gage's (Emrie's cousin) old jumper. She still hasn't figured out that she can jump in it but it does help her stand which is one of her favorite things.

We also have a free standing jumper that she likes but has to have a little help from CS Lewis...I don't think he would mind.

She has also started the game that every baby pretty much goes through of I drop it and you pick it up. Endless fun for mom and dad.

Emrie is also becoming very adventurous in her crib and she often leaves us wondering how in the world she ended up in that position. Sometimes I wish our video monitor had a record feature. When she started rolling over she decided that she liked sleeping on her tummy and I guess that started getting old so she now sleeps on her side. She doesn't just sleep on her side though she sleeps on her side while holding the crib bumper like it is a stuffed animal. I wish that I could get a picture of it for you to fully appreciate it but I haven't figured out how to do that without waking her up. Again video monitors need to have a record and picture taking feature. Oh well maybe they will have figured that out by the time she is 20 and I don't think she would appreciate us using it then.

Learning from the best...Piper Suess

So we went to the Suess house for memorial day and had a great time with friends. Emrie's friend is Piper and I have never seen Emrie lie so still as when she was watching Piper. This is why...by the way it is a spice cap that she has on her nose. Melissa and Billy you should be proud that you have such a creative daughter.

Tired Girl

So as mentioned before when Emrie sucks her fingers one of them has a tendency to go up her nose. I love that she does this and it makes me laugh every time. I feel that you need to actually see it to truly appreciate it. Enjoy the video.

Emrie's new ride

So Emrie will be going to Steamboat, Colorado with Kyle's family in July (we are going too :P) and we decided that she needed a good way to trek through the mountainous terrain...well and the Austin greenbelt. This is what we came up with. She seems to like it.

Solid Foods

So we started Emrie on solids at about 4 months old one to try and help with her reflux and two see if we could get a little weight on her petite frame. After about a week of her spitting the rice cereal out she figured out that if she opened her mouth it would work better. Now she eats solids like a champ. She is always wary of anything new that we introduce and will only take a few bites. It is like she has to form an opinion before she will fully commit. She never really took to peas (can you blame her) as you will see in the pictures below. She does enjoy carrots, green beans (sort of), sweet potatoes, squash, bananas, apples and peaches. So fingers crossed she won't be a picky eater. Here is her fighting the peas i was trying to feed her.

This is what she does when she is really ready to eat.

This is a video that we took when we introduced squash for the first time and like i said she was a little wary. Now she eats it with gusto. Bon Appetit.

Time with cousins

On sunday, May 22nd the Sharpe cousins came to visit Emrie. Clara and Emrie have the same bow so of course we had to get a picture.

Then on Wednesday Emrie and I went to visit the Sharpes in San Antonio for the day. The kids were pure entertainment for Emrie, especially Gage. He got her laughing multiple times. He kept saying she likes me she likes me...that she did Gage. He also kept wanting to hold her so we finally let him.

First of many get togethers.

Favortie Photos

So here are some of my favorite photos of the little bit up until this point.

Growing, Growing

So we like to call Emrie petite...not small. She has pretty consistently stayed at the bottom of the charts from the beginning. The doctor says she is happy and healthy just small boned which I am pretty sure she will appreciate later on in life. The most common statement we get when we tell people how old she is is "oh she is small"...excuse me the PC term is petite thank you. Below are her measurements at all of her well visits.

12/26/09 - 5 days old, 19 inches - 25%, 6lb 4oz - 10%

12/31/09 - 10 days old, 19 1/8 inches - 5-10%, 6lb 8oz - 10%

1/14/10 - 3 weeks old, 19 1/2 inches - 10%, 7lb 8oz - 10-25%

3/10/10 - 2 1/2 months, 22 1/8 inches - 25%, 10lb 1oz - 10-25%

4/15/10 - 4 months, 22 6/8 inches - 3%, 11lb 0oz - 5%

5/20/10 - 5 months, 24 inches - 5%, 12lb 2 oz - 5%

Milestones

So since I am a little behind on this blogging thing I decided to list when Emrie hit most of her major milestones up until 5 months old.

Sucking her fingers - she was working on this for a few months until she finally got it at around 3 months old. Although sucking them is lumped in with nose picking.

Rolling over
- The first time she did this was April 20th (1 day shy of 4 months) and she was on her play mat and i was in the kitchen. I came back and she was on her tummy...we were both pretty surprised. She really started rolling over consistently May 1st when we were in Abilene for my friend Andrea's 30th birthday. Ever since she started rolling over she has been sleeping on her tummy and let me tell you we are all getting more sleep these days because of it. Here is a video of her rolling over. She has a tough little noggin.

Grabbing for things
- She did this for the first time on May 1st as well and my hand was the first thing she grabbed. I just put it out in front of her like the many times before but this time both of those little hands came forward and sure enough she grabbed my hand. Steal my heart.

Laughing
- The first time we got a consistent laugh out of her was May 1st (do we see a theme here? Kyle unfortunately missed it all). She was being held by Simone and was laughing at her Aunt Ashley. I only caught the tail end of it.

Squealing
- She really started discovering her voice mid May and all she did was squeal all day long. I took this video May 13th right after bath time. You can see what I mean.

All in all we have enjoyed watching her learn new things and really start to interact with us and the world around her. She has a pretty precious personality.

Emrie Ann Wardlaw

Emrie is our first addition to the Wardlaw household. She was born on December 21, 2009 at 5:58am and she weighed 6lbs 7oz and was 19 inches long. Welcome to the family baby girl!
